FTC and New Rules for Affiliate Marketers

December 1, 2009 by Wendy

If you’ve haven’t read all of the posts, Twitter tweets and articles that have been going around on the Internet lately then please let me fill you in on this very important news.

The FTC is changing the way affiliate marketers should be promoting products and these changes go into effect December 1, 2009. If you are promoting anyone’s products then this is really something you should take a look at.

If you review or endorse any products and/or use testimonials, please check out the official FTC statement here:

I’m not a lawyer, although sometimes I wish I was, but here are a few resources that explain things way better than I can:

Lynn Terry has made a few posts on the topic here:

Internet Law Resources (Notice how he has an Affiliate Status Disclosure on his sidebar)

Again, the new rules go into effect December 1, 2009 and ALL affiliates must be in compliance with these new rules. The FTC is very serious and it’s very important that we all abide by these new rules, any affiliate that doesn’t abide by them will unfortunately be terminated from our affiliate program.
